Student Scheduling
At Dublin City Schools, we strive to provide a scheduling process that supports students in meeting their academic goals while exploring unique learning opportunities. Whether students are taking courses exclusively at their home school, at Emerald, or blending their schedules between locations, we aim to ensure all requests are carefully considered.
Regardless of a students scheduling choices, they should plan for 7 periods, which include core courses, electives, and study halls. For students choosing to participate in the Emerald programming, one period should be reserved for travel.
Here is an overview of the high school scheduling process-
-
Submit Course Requests - Students submit course requests during the designated scheduling period, selecting courses for 7 periods. These requests guide decisions about the number of class sections offered. For students interested in Emerald Campus courses, the process is the same. However, students opting to attend Emerald Campus must set aside one period in their schedule for travel.
-
Build and Assign Schedules - Based on course requests, the schools and Emerald build master schedules that accommodates as many student selections as possible while balancing teacher availability, room space, and class sizes. The system then assigns individual student schedules, prioritizing core graduation requirements and minimizing conflicts.
-
Review and Finalize - Counselors review schedules to resolve conflicts and adjust for issues like full classes or unmet prerequisites.
