Dublin Business Academy (DBA)

Build business skills by running a real company at Emerald Campus in Dublin City Schools. Through the Dublin Business Academy, students gain hands-on experience in marketing, sales, finance, design, and management while operating a student-led apparel business that serves real customers and develops real-world entrepreneurial skills.

Students learn by doing as they create products, manage operations, market services, and collaborate to solve real business challenges. Along the way, they build professional skills, confidence, and an entrepreneurial mindset that prepares them for college, careers, and future business opportunities.

Open to: Grades 11–12, Dublin City Schools students
Course length: 2 periods daily • Yearlong (2.0 HS credits total)
Transportation: Free shuttle between home high schools and Emerald Campus

Dublin Business Academy Overview

Students in the Dublin Business Academy (DBA) operate a real, student-run screen-printing and apparel business. Each day, students collaborate in teams to complete projects that reflect real-world business operations, from developing invoices and customer outreach to creating marketing campaigns and producing finished products. The DBA provides students with an authentic, project-based learning environment where leadership, communication, and problem-solving come to life. Students graduate from the program with a professional portfolio, an understanding of business processes, and transferable skills in teamwork, customer service, and creative problem-solving.

Credit Summary

Yearlong program (2 periods daily)

2.0 high school credits total • Semester 1 – 1 total credit / Semester 2 – 1 total credit

Includes: Business Foundations, Business Management, and Applied Marketing
Recognition: CTAG alignment • Articulated credit through Columbus State Community College (pending) • Portfolio professional profile development

Eligibility & Enrollment

Open to grades 11–12. No prerequisites required. Students should have an interest in business, marketing, or entrepreneurship and a willingness to work collaboratively in a professional environment. Enrollment is open to Dublin City Schools students. Students will complete all enrollment steps through their home school counselor.

Who Should Participate

This academy is ideal for students who want to experience what it’s like to start and run a company. Whether interested in marketing, accounting, graphic design, management, or entrepreneurship, students will build both business and leadership skills that are directly applicable to future careers and college programs.

Things to Note

Students gain over 200 hours of hands-on work experience through production, client management, and project leadership.
DBA functions as a real business, serving both school and community clients through live orders.
Guest speakers, business tours, and potential Lean Six Sigma certification enhance professional exposure.
Students develop portfolios and LinkedIn profiles to showcase their experiences and skills.
WebXam assessments are typically administered in April; major marketing projects are completed in May.

Develop a foundation in entrepreneurship, management, and financial literacy while exploring how businesses operate day-to-day. Students rotate through real business functions including accounting, production, marketing, and sales as part of running DBA’s student enterprise.

Business Management (423)

Grades 11–12 CTAG Semester 1 • 1 period • Meets daily • Prereq: None

Focus on leadership, organization, and project management through the operations of the Dublin Business Academy. Students manage production schedules, oversee order fulfillment, and develop strategies to improve workflow and profitability.

Applied Marketing (424)

Grades 11–12 CTAG Semester 2 • 1 period • Meets daily • Prereq: None

Apply real marketing, communication, and branding skills to promote DBA products and campaigns. Students manage social media, design promotional materials, and analyze customer data to refine strategies and boost engagement.
