Engineering

The Engineering Academy provides students with a hands-on introduction to the diverse field of engineering, helping them decide if engineering is a career path they wish to pursue.

Students engage in collaborative design thinking projects using university and industry-standard equipment and software for 3D design, data analysis, programming, and electrical circuitry. This immersive experience prepares students for further study in engineering at the college level and beyond.

This Academy Is For:
The Engineering Academy is ideal for students who have a strong interest in building computers, electronics, and robotics, and who thrive in a hands-on learning environment. It is perfect for those looking to explore a career in engineering and develop practical skills that will be valuable in various engineering fields.

Course Information:
The Engineering Academy is a year-long program that meets in a two-period block and offers three course credits: Fundamentals of Engineering, Electricity, Electronics and Control Systems, and Mathematical Models and Data Analysis. Students will need to travel to the Emerald Campus to participate. The program includes the opportunity to take Columbus State courses through the College Credit Plus (CCP) program. To participate in the CCP option, students must pass the Columbus State Community College (CSCC) entrance assessment, which requires a solid understanding of Algebra II.

Things to Note:
Students will gain hands-on experience in engineering labs, working on projects such as circuit design, robot building, CNC machining, and additive manufacturing. This real-world experience is invaluable for those considering a future in engineering.
