Healthcare

The Healthcare Professionals Academy is a collaborative program between Dublin City Schools, OhioHealth, and Columbus State Community College. It provides students with an in-depth exploration of the healthcare field, focusing on both academic and hands-on learning experiences. Students will take college-level courses that cover various aspects of healthcare, including anatomy (with hands-on experience learning with human cadavers), lab and clinical skills, and participate in site-based visits and guest speaker sessions. This academy offers a unique opportunity for students to engage directly with healthcare professionals and explore different career pathways in the medical field.

This Academy Is For:
The Healthcare Professionals Academy is ideal for students in grades 11-12 who have a strong interest in science and healthcare. It is designed for those who enjoy hands-on learning and want to explore careers in healthcare through practical experiences, such as hospital field trips, volunteering, and mentoring opportunities.

Course Information:
This is a two-year program held at the Columbus State Community College Dublin Regional Learning Center. Students will participate in college courses that combine academic learning with lab and clinical skills. The program includes a mix of classroom instruction, lab work, and real-world healthcare experiences, helping students build a strong foundation for a career in healthcare.

Things to Note:
Upon completion of the two-year program, students will be eligible to pursue the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree on a part-time degree track with potential employment at OhioHealth. Alternatively, students can continue their education in other healthcare pathways, such as becoming a registered nurse. Industry credentials available through this program include the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) certification, Clinical Laboratory Assisting Certificate, and Phlebotomy Certificate.
