Young Professionals/Co-Op
Both the Young Professionals Academy (YPA) and Dublin Co-Op offer semester-long internship experiences designed to prepare students for the professional world. These programs provide hands-on learning opportunities, allowing students to explore various career pathways and develop essential skills for success. Students should choose the program that best fits their current level of experience and career readiness.
Young Professionals Academy (YPA):
YPA is a level-one internship program aimed at students who are new to the professional world and want to learn how to market their skills and abilities. This program includes two six-week professional workplace learning experiences, helping students to gain exposure to different industries and job roles. YPA students attend seminar days at the Emerald Campus, where they participate in in-class schoolwork and receive guidance from instructors in finding and setting up internships. YPA focuses on developing critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills through classroom lessons and hands-on experiences. Students will have the opportunity to engage in site visits, attend seminars, and participate in blended learning days.
Dublin Co-Op:
Dublin Co-Op is a level-two internship program designed for students who already possess the independence and skills necessary to secure their own internship. Co-Op students need time during or outside the school day to complete their internship hours and must be self-driven, connecting virtually with their instructor for guidance. Co-Op experiences can be site-based or project-based, providing flexibility for students to engage in real-world learning. Before starting, students complete onboarding with a co-op advisor and are involved in planning and goal-setting aligned with the OhioMeansJobs Seal. Students are responsible for securing their own internships and transportation, and they must have their internship arranged by the fourth week of the semester. Pairing the Co-Op with YPA or the Leadership Academy is encouraged for a more comprehensive learning experience, although it is not mandatory.
Course Information:
Both programs are semester-long, offering students the chance to explore professional environments and build their resumes. Students in the YPA will participate in structured, instructor-supported internships, while Dublin Co-Op students will pursue more independent internship opportunities. Both programs emphasize developing professional skills and preparing students for future careers.
Things to Note:
- YPA: Ideal for students who are starting to explore professional careers and want structured support.
- Dublin Co-Op: Best suited for students who are more independent and have experience or confidence in securing their own internships.
