American Sign Language Studies

This option Is For:

These two courses are ideal for high school students in grades 9-12 interested in learning American Sign Language (ASL) and exploring Deaf culture. It’s suitable for beginners starting their ASL journey and those continuing to build on foundational skills, such as grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension, within a cultural context.  It is designed for motivated learners accepted into the College Credit Plus Program who want to develop language skills and cultural knowledge.

Things to Note:

• The program requires students participate in Columbus State College Credit Plus courses (see CSCC courses listed above). Students must complete the program requirements located on the district CCP page and have a 3.0 unweighted GPA (or pass the applicable Columbus State Community College (CSCC) entrance assessment).

Course Information:

• Corequisite: Participation at Emerald Campus requires participation in both of the ASL courses offered

Courses: (Code CSASL1101 and CSASL1102)

• CSCC Beginning ASL I  ASL 1101 - 1st semester - 1 high school credit and 3 college credits
• CSCC Beginning ASL I  ASL 1102 - 2nd semester - 1 high school credit and 3 college credits
