IB Diploma Program Overview

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program offers a globally recognized curriculum that challenges students to think critically, communicate effectively, and connect learning across disciplines. Whether students take individual IB courses or pursue the full Diploma, they gain skills that prepare them for college, career, and life in a global society.

Participation Options

Students may take one or more IB courses or enroll in the full IB Diploma Program. The full Diploma includes six subject areas—Language and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and the Arts—along with the IB Core (Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service).

Credit Summary

• Length: 1–2 years per course (depending on SL or HL level)
• Credits: Weighted 5.0 for each IB course due to academic rigor
• Recognition: IB courses may earn college credit, scholarships, or advanced standing based on exam results and university policies
• Diploma Requirement: Students pursuing the full IB Diploma must complete six IB courses plus the IB Core

Eligibility & Enrollment

Open to students in grades 11 and 12 who demonstrate curiosity, commitment, and readiness for advanced coursework. Enrollment in IB courses requires completion of prerequisite courses and counselor approval to ensure proper academic alignment. Students interested in the full IB Diploma should plan their coursework beginning in grade 10.

• Students may take individual IB courses or pursue the full Diploma, depending on their goals and schedule.
• Many universities offer college credit or advanced placement for IB exam scores of 4 or higher.

IB Assessments (At a Glance)

• Internal Assessments: Research projects, oral commentaries, experiments, and creative works completed during the course.
• External Assessments: Written IB exams graded by international examiners on a 1–7 scale, held in May of each year.
• IB Diploma Award: Granted by the International Baccalaureate Organization to students who meet the point threshold and complete all Core components.
