IB Core

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program centers on the IB Core, which consists of three key components. These are studied alongside the individual subjects throughout a student's time in the Diploma Program (DP).

The IB Core is designed to broaden students' educational experience and encourage them to apply their knowledge and skills in new ways. Students enrolled in four or more IB courses during their junior and senior years are eligible to participate in the IB Core.

IB Core - 2 years/1 period - Year 1 (Code: 501) / Year 2 (Code: 502)

Course Components:

Theory of Knowledge (TOK): A course that encourages critical thinking, reflection, making connections across disciplines and applying what is learned inside and outside the classroom.
Creativity, Action and Service (CAS): A key component of the Diploma Program that promotes experiential learning through a range of artistic, sporting, physical, and community service activities.
Extended Essay (EE): A research paper of 4,000 words on a question or issue chosen by the student. The EE is great preparation for college-level inquiry and research!
